  • Comments Thread For: L. Peterson: I’m Doing This For The Fans, Not For Khan

The aftermath of his career-defining win over Amir Khan lasted longer than a month for Lamont Peterson, who was forced to endure sanctioning body protests, hearings and a lot of complaining from Khan and Golden Boy Promotions.

I really hope Peterson wins just to see what excuse Khan comes up with.

I'm happy for Lamont he's hard guy to dislike. A good friend of mine was dealt his first loss in the amateurs to Peterson. I've always thought he was a good fighter but wasn't really impressed until the Ortiz fight. I thought he won that fight by 1 point but if it had been a 12 round fight he probably would have won. He also impressed me against Cayo, he fought a hard fast paced fight and did work to the body like he did to Khan. Thats why I thought the first fight with Khan was 50/50 going into to the fight. I knew if he could work Khan's body he would wear him down, I just wasn't sure if he would be able to cut the ring off and bully him on the ropes like that. When he fought Cayo he was right in front of him and I knew Khan would use more movement then Cayo. It ended up being good fight regardless of all the controversy. The second fight should be as good or better as the first. Can't wait.

dont get me wrong i do rate peterson as a world class operator but, this claim of the so called career defining fight is not with this fellah.......whats his name?......ermmm.....khant?
this khant fellah is not somebody who can lay claim to be "the man to beat" when he has been kod in 54 seconds by a nobody and still fights like an amateur in my view.
there is no denying that he can fight at world level but, he was almost stopped by his own corner against maidana and knocked down by two nobodies in willie limond and the well and truly shot michael gomez.
further to that he was losing to mccloskey and never gave the poor fellah a rematch.
the mcloskey fight was an absolute robbery of a stoppage if you compare that to the fight with lamont.(1st one).
he has only started crying because he lost, what about a mcloskey rematch?
you watch khant avoid that one.
barry hearn should have done more to secure a rematch in such unfair circumstances especially as it cost his man the "0".
anyway, lamonts career defining fight would be against somebody who is truly great in the modern sport and not this geezer who has a record of just 26 fights and 2 losses. he(khant) has a loooooooooong way to go backwards before he can go forwards and then upwards in my view.
if i were lamonts handlers, i would be looking for the early "catch him cold" knockout. or atleast throw powershots every punch all night and i think he can do the job and get rid of this waaaaaaaaaaay over rated amateur.
the ****s been on tv saying "its make or break" what? ****! after only 26 fights (mostly against nobodies) and he is saying this? hmmmmm, not the words from a so called star of boxing, in another 20 fights or so and having racked up wins against the likes of alexander,a maidana rematch, bradley, kev mitchell, katsidis, marquez, kell brook and possibly some of the elite f/weights that may come up like juanma/salido/gamboa/de leon/donaire etc then.....and only then would i say.......yeah, a modern great. ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
