Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns is Targeting Much Bigger Fights For 2012

Ricky Burns has his sights set on bigger fights after a confident if unspectacular first defence of his WBO lightweight belt.

AFter the Mitchell fight, Burns should come to USA and fight. . . Or, if it makes more financial sense, and guys like Vazquez, and Demarco are willing to come over to Scotland - fight them. . . Burns actually reminds me A LOT of Vazquez - not a lot of punching power, but pretty good speed, EXCELLENT jab, and good combinations. . . Vazquez is a lot more mobile with head and body movement, but Burns has a better defensive guard.

Demarco hits harder than burns, but I believe Burns is faster and more technically sound. . .

If Rios wasn't moving to 140 (he'll prolly be at 140 now since Gamboa bytched out), I would love that matchup. . . Burns has a style that could outpoint Rios, and a tight enough defensive guard to cactch a lot of Rios' inside power punches on the forearms, elbows, and gloves. . He can pull his guard up VERY fast - transition from combinations to guard. . .

I want to see Broner move up possibly in Late 2012/Early 2013 and beat Burns. People seem to forget that Broner-Burns was suppose to happen at 130 but then Burns vacated and moved up to LW.....

That would be an absolute massacre. Burns is nowhere near Broner's level.

Oh come dude, it was a swerve but you can't blame Burns for that. It was good management. He'd get destroyed by Broner but to move up (which given his height was no shock and probably overdue) and win another belt deserves a bit of credit. It's not like Broner going struggle for rep and fights there.

You're just repeating the same thing over several threads..... Everyone knows Burns ain't the greatest boxer in the world but he works hard and he's humble. He's a better boxer than you think for sure.

                Exposed?

Hes already lost twice at British level. Its not like hes being touted as some great fighter. Hes just a hard working guy who's improved and probably overachieved.

Yes he'll eventually lose when he steps up but its got nothing to do with being "exposed"

Spot on. He's lost to Alex Arthur in a fight that came too early for him and a loss to what was a decent Carl Johananneson at the time. He's come off the canvas in the 1st and beaten an unbeaten puncher in Martinez when no one gave him a chance. He put a very good performance against Katsidas albeit Kats coming of two touch fights to Marquez and Guerrero but was still a very good name to have. Moses was by no means a push over with only 1 loss. Fair enough his style is not to everyone taste, especially the Americans as it's that very traditional upright European style (don't think he could fight any other way given physical attributes and punching power). I think he has lot more than just that good left hand lead. He's a very underrated body puncher IMO. His transitions to the body are flawless at times and his footwork is ever improving.

(I may be slightly bias being a Scot )

People have been saying Burns will be exposed/matter of time etc. But its clear he has taken his game to a new level now outpointing Kats and now Moses. His earlier losses arent really relvant now because he is a different fighter just as Pacs losses to Torrencampo and Singursat arent relevant when assessing how he will do against Bradley.

Ricky has proven hismelf to be world class and theres only afew lightweights that would be favourite against him.
