By Thomas Gerbasi - Shhhh. Don’t say anything, but despite all the talk about writers being impartial and objective, we all have our favorites, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. We also have our non-favorites, the guys we wouldn’t yell “look out” to if they were about to get hit by a speeding truck.

But that’s a topic for another column.

For the time being, and with the only action of note this weekend being a heavyweight championship mismatch between Wladimir Klitschko and Jean-Marc Mormeck, I’m going to make you feel even worse by listing a half-dozen of “my guys,” the fighters you would never dread seeing on a Saturday afternoon. In fact, you would probably rearrange your plans to make sure you didn’t miss them. [Click Here To Read More]

Can't believe not reply to this article.

    Was a good read.

Wish there was more footage of Tony Ayala. I only saw him fight once. Just after he got out of prison, was well out of shape and totally decimated some poor guy. Real wasted talent.

Tommy - great article - obviously we are of the same era as all of your faves are mine as well. Frank "The Animal" Fletcher is my absolute favorite of that era, however, for all of the reasons you mentioned (especially that Jackson fight, dear Lord what a war!) and most importantly for stating after one of those wars that he never clinches - he just fights (or something to that effect). If only all fighters thought that way. God bless you Animal - wherever you are locked up tonight . . .

Hopefully part II will have Michael Spinks and Aaron Pryor in there as those two were also amazing talents of the era. Spinks was also the best post-fight interview - so candid, so funny. Pryor was just amazing - such a shame that drugs took away his prime.
