  • Comments Thread For: Team Peterson on Marquez Rumors, Khan Rematch, More

Barry Hunter, trainer and manager of WBA/IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15KOs), spoke to BoxingScene.com about the circulating rumors pertaining to his boxer's next fight. Last month in Washington, DC, Peterson won the titles with a controversial twelve round split decision over Amir Khan. The post-fight controversy raged on for weeks, with Team Khan/Golden Boy Promotions filing appeals with the WBA and the IBF. While the appeal to the IBF was withdrawn, the WBA ordered an immediate rematch. Peterson's team have appealed the WBA's ruling.

go ahead and fight marquez he might get old overnight and be there for the taking, marquez is my fav fighter along with gamboa and floyd so miss me wit the hate, but if peterson can beat marquez it would be huge for his career and resume plus big money down the line

I'm confused... I read on bad left hook earlier that LP got offered 1.5M for the khan fight and he hadnt responded, now hunter is saying there waiting for an offer when he admitted earlier they received an offer from GBP but they wanted to enjoy their time off.

Both are good fights, but I'd rather see the Khan rematch. I think Peterson will beat Khan again if he can execute the same game plan, but only keep up the work rate and use his jab to get inside. He kept coming straight forward without working behind the jab and he ate a lot of jabs in return. I thought maybe Khan would have learned from this fight and make him better but I don't think thats the case. Khan blames the loss on everything except for his in ability to deal with Peterson's pressure. It was a close fight. He's still talking about Mayweather and the future, just like he has been doing for the last few years. He should focus at the task at hand. He overlooked Lamont and he paid for it. Khan is more focused on being a star then being a boxer.

My take on that is Hunter wants Peterson fighting someone else (Marquez)m to make some $$$$ THEN rematch Khan. If Peterson were to beat Marquez his terms would be a lot more demanding in the Khan rematch with him more than justifying a 60 40 deal. If the Marquez fight generate the same or more $$ as a Khan rematch that is the sensible way to go. But bottom line I don't see a quick rematch unless Marquez signs to fight someone else.
