  • Comments Thread For: Bute vs Froch is Still in Play For April 14th in Montreal

Jean Bedard, President of InterBox, who promote IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, has revealed that his company will do everything possible to finalize a deal to fight Carl Froch on April 14th in Montreal. Bedard, without presenting too many details, confirmed BoxingScene.com's report from a few weeks ago, that Showtime is not interested in a Bute-Froch battle. The network, who have Bute under contract for one more fight, prefer an American opponent.

Showtime needs to wait for Wards hand to heal to make Bute vs Ward it's the fight that Showtime wants.

Froch or Dirrell would be good matchups for a Bute lacking credibility.

I still hope that Froch gets the fight in Nottingham if that fight gets signed. He's a road warrior and deserves a homecoming. Not a likely scenario though.

"We will continue to pursue this mission with or without the support of an American TV network. After speaking to trainers & sponsors, we agreed that we have to do everything in our power to make fight with Froch. Bute sold over 40,000 tix in his 3 fights in '11. He sold among most tickets in North America and is one of the sport’s biggest attractions. We sought two opponents Andre Ward and Carl Froch. Bute is 31 and wants to pursue the biggest fights possible. It is tough to determine at the moment. We will do everything in our power to make the fight happen." -Bedard, Bute promoter

"My objective is still to fight winner of the Super 6, Andre Ward. This has not changed. I hear he’s not available to fight in April. I hear (Ward) is not available to fight in April. I will give him time to rest and then my plan is to fight him anywhere in the world. When Froch beat Glen Johnson, we were there. We were asked to identify two boxers we wish to fight. I have no preference between Froch & Ward other than whoever wants to fight me. I hope Froch keeps his word and will agree to fight me in April." Bute

Ward doesn't want Bute, says he need to fight Dirrell 1st.

that's the fight Showtime and Al Haymon want to make.

with Espinoza at Showtime, it's Haymon calling the shots with his fighters.

that's why Showtime is rejecting Bute Froch because Haymon wants Bute to fight Dirrell

That's the only opponent(Dirrell) showtime named that they want Bute to fight. They're rejecting any other names.

Well it seems like Bute will go the Froch route without Showtime. TBH I don't think Bute needs Showtime. They done well without them.

I agree but then realism catches up with me.

If this is still the two fight deal then they’re not going to have any problems getting TV exposure for the UK matchup and Bute does sell a lot of tickets in Canada so it’s still possible.

                  Fuck Showtime.

Also, Bedard sounds like the worst Hopkins nickname of all time.
