Comments Thread For: Random Acts of Ring Rambling: Floyd, Manny, Sergio, More

By Thomas Gerbasi - It’s been a while since I’ve knocked one of these out, and with so much going on in the boxing world, this is as good a time as any for some ramblings on the sweet science in all its various forms.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather – Seriously, this fight had better be good. I expect this kind of gossip, innuendo, and general time wasting from my teenage daughter, not from the two best boxers in the world today. According to the latest salvo, Floyd called Manny and the two discussed the bout. Bob Arum didn’t have a comment, Todd duBoef said negotiating should be done behind closed doors and not in the media (I agree), and Leonard Ellerbe said he knows what was said but that was private. ENOUGH. Make the fight. We know it’s going to happen, we’re confident that it’s going to be this year, the fighters have reportedly / allegedly / apparently (depending on who you talk to) agreed on their financial terms and all the other major issues, so just make the fight. This drawn out, tedious process is doing nothing but alienating true fight fans, most of which probably won’t be able to grab tickets to the bout once the casinos swoop in, so at least let us have the thing signed so we can talk about the fight, and not the negotiations. No one wants to see Floyd or Manny fight anyone else but each other. When all the parties involved realize that, we can get on with the latest fight to “save boxing.” [Click Here To Read More]

Sergio only calls out fighters smaller than him. He's also fond of trash talking. Doesn't speak English and not a PPV material

If u watched boxing u would know that tho. Ayo. Martinez is a harder fight for mayweather than pacquiao is tho easily!!! Just ask pac why he dont fight MONEY!!! LMAO

Chavez jr weighs 180 after rehydrating, Martinez weighed rehydrated to 165 for Barker, but I guess Martinez is calling out a smaller guy.

Bob Arum is the one who started all that ****. Martinez is too big, Martinez isn't a sell. Arum will say and do anything to keep Martinez away from his cash cows.

Martinez clowns Chavez and would destroy him, that's the real reason why Chavez isn't fighting Martinez.

Martinez against Cotto would be a close fight and not some glorfied sparring session like the Mayorga fight was. Arum just wants to keep the money rolling in.

i dont think sergio rehydrated to 165, makes no sense he came in and weighed at 158, no reason to cut two additional lbs under weight to rehydrate to 165..

i would assume he was 158 all along, dont believe all that next day weight nonsense...

martinez is a lmw, who is fighting up

floyd should fight him at 154 not a catch weight after putting pac down for doing it

sergio has not fought ww since 2001

the mcClellan v benn fight was a brutal affair that went back and forth until benn scored the ko. Gerald lost his eye sight due to a blood clot. i also remember don king had one of his henchmen go into geralds hotel room, steal his contract and replace it with a much lower payday for a man that would never fight again. and would need every cent of his last pay day as a pro fighter. gerald was spectacular as a fighter. he was a ko machine. you hate to see a man lose his ability to not only earn but to have his activity of daily living impacted in such a negative way. i wish nothing but the best for gerald.

whats up amayseng. the honest truth about this situation is, sergio made the proposition to fight at 150 NOT floyd. and the main reason pac catches flack is he forces men to fight at a wt thats lower than the wt he fights at normally. for example, he fights at welter wt where the limit is 147.yet he made cotto fight at 144. why the catch wt when he fights at 147? and all the pac fans praised his defeat of oscar at 147. not once did i hear any one say, he should fight oscar at 154. AND he fought margarito at 150 for the 154lb strap when he nor tony had to qualify for the title match. he jumped over far more deserving fighters for a title fight at a wt he never fought at?????? that smells rotten. he ducked and ran from yuri forman to fight in a complete sham of a title fight. now thats wrong. and if any one disagrees they are a fan of one man not boxing. thats like floyd fighting shane for the 168ib strap. i would call that a sham fight too if it were to happen.
