Comments Thread For: Juanma's Trainer: He's More Focused, More Dedicated Now

Trainer and manager Orlando Pinero is calling Juan Manuel Lopez "a new man." He says the fight is more focused and more dedicated to his training camp. Juanma (31-1, 28KOs) is training to avenge the first defeat of his career. He wants revenge for last April's knockout loss to Mexico's Orlando Salido (37-11-2, 35KOs). The rematch takes place on March 10th in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Avoiding getting ko'd would be a good tactic this time around.

a "new man" to me is if Juanma fixes a few of them bad habits he has in fights. To me, it dont matter how determined and focus he is if this isnt the priority in camp (long term). Maybe he'll get by Salido that night with a couple of adjustments here and there but IMO if those things dont get fixed, it will only be a matter of time before he will get Ko'd again espcially if he plans to move up to 130.

salido must knock lopez out in order to win in PR. but, if you look at salidos record, thats pretty much the only way he wins anyway. but much respect to both mexico and puerto rico. great fight once again for boxing fans.

The JuanMa that fought Penalosa gets knocked out early and easy. He was walking down Penalosa, huge mistake with Salido! He needs to circle and use movement, angles throw punches and get out....that is what you are supposed to do with a straight forward puncher. If he has that capacity, he can win.

The only adjustments Juanma needs to make is to drop this prima donna/celebrity attitude he picked up after the Ponce de Leon fight. He let the Tito endorsements and the post Cotto era torch bearer vision get to his head. Which in turn affected his attitude towards boxing... He became a legend in his own mind when in fact had only started chipping away at the ice block.
