Comments Thread For: Zanfer To Battle WBA For Stripping Juan Manuel Marquez

Unfairly, the World Boxing Association (WBA) stripped Juan Manuel Marquez of his "super champion" status at lightweight, arguing that the Mexican fighter has not defended his title in the last 18 months against a mandatory challenger.

Like I always said, these PARASITE ORGANISM'S belts doesn't dictate a fighters value or makes a fighter any better, the fighter & depending on his skills & accomplishments is what makes these belts worth something & in this case, Marquéz caliber makes ANY belt worth A WHOLE LOT!!! The WBA is the 1 that looses by letting Marquéz go & Marquéz does NOT need a belt to prove what he's worth!!The fans know & with or without a belt, Marquéz could move on being successful!!

First of all, he's The Ring Magazine and WBO champion, so who cares; second, he has no interest in fighting at lightweight anymore, so why bother; and third, the guy hasn't defended it against a WBA mandatory in ever!!

On a side note, Marquez is without a doubt the lightweight champion of the world; however, the fact that he hasn't defended that championship in over a year is the reason why having one champion per division is an obsolete and unreal idea. As much as I hate the WBA and WBC, it's better to have more than one champion per division, IMO (but definitely not two-three per organization. If you think about, it's very unfair for a mandatory challenger to be waiting for over a year for a champion who may, or may not, have an interest in fighting in the same weightclass anymore.

This is the same WBA that has a Regular and a Super champion at the same time? What a joke. They've made it a bullshit belt so who cares.

The main problem is that Marquez still has a couple of months before the 18 months limit pass. Marquez defended his title against Katsidis on 27-11-2010, so he still has some time left.

Marquez said that he believed that they're stripping him of the title because the WBA wants to make Jorge Linares champion, and that most likely the title will be disputed in a fight Linares - Richard Abril

The only reason their stripping him is cuz he ain't giving them no sanctioning fee.

WBC and WBA are ****in jokes

This organization had 3 featherweight champions at one point. Gamboa as "Unified" champion , Chris John as "super" champion and jonathan barros as the "regular" champion. What a ****ing disgrace to boxing.

Marquez team always claim robbery when they lose a fight. Rafael was beaten by Nishioka by UD yet claimed robbery.
