Comments Thread For: BScene’s 2011 Year-End Awards: Knockout of The Year

By Cliff Rold - It was over in a Filipino Flash.

Highly anticipated, within arguably the best weight class in the game in 2011, unified Bantamweight titlist Fernando Montiel accepted the challenge of former Flyweight champ Nonito Donaire.

Fans had waited to see the talented Donaire matched with someone deemed up the challenge. In 2007, fans had seen what was possible. Given a crack at IBF 112 lb. champ Vic Darchinyan, Donaire rose to the occasion and blitzed his way to the title with a blistering fifth round knockout.

    In 2011, he outdid himself.

Knockout of the Year: Nonito Donaire TKO2 Fernando Montiel

Montiel had competed in some twenty title bouts, across three divisions, and lost only by decision to 2011 Hall of Famer Mark Johnson and big punching Jhonny Gonzalez. A blistering left hook from Donaire changed his life. [Click Here To Read More]

I would have given the award to Juan Manuel Marquez for his devastating KO of Likar Ramos.

This or Ishida should've won it.

Asians are quickly becoming the hardest punchers in boxing real talk

They should create a new award for Montiel

The "how the **** did he get up from that award"

The way he was twitching on the ground i thought he was gonna die.

And he beat the 10 count. Even if he didnt have a clue where he was

Adrien Broner had two knockouts last year that were superb. They should have been mentioned.

I agree, cause that KO against an undefeated prospect coming from a featherfisted fighter was a real shocker!!& in the very 1st round scoring 3 KO's!! Or they should have a category like "Unexpected KO of the year"!! Ishida/Kirkland should fall in upset of the year..
