Comments Thread For: Giovani Segura Back in The Gym, Hungry To Fight Again

BoxingScene.com recently had a quick chat with former WBA/WBO junior flyweight champion Giovani Segura. The fighter known as "The Aztec Warrior" recently attempted to pick up the WBO flyweight title but lost by knockout to champion Brian Viloria in the Philippines. Segura had massive swelling on the right side of his face and it was said that he suffered a fractured orbital bone. He gamely fought with the swelling until the fight was stopped in the 8th round. I like Segura and I hope he can bounce back soon. IMO he should find a new trainer. I wanted to see Marquez vs Segura and Im still interested in if Segura can prove himself @ 112.

If it wasnt before, its very apparent now that he has no defense for the left hook. That needs corrected asap.

I went to support Gio when he fought Calderon for the second time in Mexicali. It was a great environment with a great crowd; and we all had a great time. I support him because he's the true essence of a warrior who will go into war with anyone. However, when he announced that he could no longer make 108, I knew his time as an elite fighter would most likely be over. In leaving the 108 weightclass he left his biggest advantage, his size! I'm surprised it was Viloria who proved that. I thought it was gonna be Marquez, Sosa, Concepccion, The Thai, or maybe even Miranda... Only time will tell if I'm right.

This guy has a lot of heart but he leaves himself wide open all the time he also needs to work on his defense more but I still would like to see him fight more.

Segura - true warrior and so fun to watch. Does not ever belong in the ring again with a guy who dominated him, turned his head into a pumpkin, and sent him to the hospital. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a sadistic ***. But hopefully he will get a new trainer, work on defence, and get a title somewhere.

if it's the orbital that'lll be a reoccuring problem, ie:Margarito vs Cotto after his was repaired...it can be repaired but still will have greater than normal swelling, once damaged...work on ur defense, that's what you need...
