Comments Thread For: Erik Morales on Danny Garcia: A Difficult Fight For Both

WBC junior welterweight champion Erik Morales (52-7, 36KOs) likes the idea of fighting a 23-year-old undefeated up-and-comer on January 28th at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. Morales makes the first defense of his title against Danny Garcia (22-0, 14KOs). HBO will televise the fight. Junior middleweight James Kirkland faces Carlos Molina in the co-featured bout.

I know Morales has the skills and power to beat this kid, but I don't think this is a fight he should take at this stage in his career. What will this fight do for him? It's all risk and little reward. If he loses, they say he grew old and he's done. If he wins, they say Garcia was overrated and Morales get little credit. I think Morales proved enough in the Maidana fight. He doesn't need to fight Danny Garcia. He should be going after those last few big paydays. Marquez, Maidana 2, and possibly Mayweather(strictly for the $) on May 5th. I am not a fan of this fight against Garcia but it shows the championship caliber fighter El Terrible is. My hat goes off to him.

A (former) 122 lb Mexican vs a 140 lb Rican with no catchweight--- yep, Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry, folks! Santa Maria madre de Jesus Cristo! Sigh......................

I know EM is a warrior and WAS as great fighter at one time but this constant talk about him vs top fighters or very good looking prospects has to stop......he is done and Maidana taking him lightly and being a sloppy brawler has created this illusion that he is somehow in the mix. Erik is done and he is not in the mix really.

It could be a decent fight consdering that Garica is really not that good and can't punch him self out of a wet paper bag

I think we can all agree that Morales is done (physically), but his technique and experience always help him be/stay in the fight. Also, Maidana did not take Morales lightly. He said it before and after the fight. What Maidana did say is that he should have trained for 10 weeks as opposed to 8.
