If I only knew then what I know now. How many times has that been said by all of us when looking back through the wisdom of time? It seems in the context of looking back, we can see things more for what they really are then what we thought they were. And some things we didn't appreciate at the time, are now recalled more fondly. This also happens to apply when looking back at past great fighters and champions. [details]

nicely done. Most people have the perception of Hagler being a monster, when in fact he was a master boxer/puncher. -
I'm not saying Sugar Ray's strategy didn't beat Hagler, but over the weekend I watched the Mugabi and Leonard fights back-to-back, and Hagler took quite alot of punishment from "The Beast". I think this had to also play into his inability to make a lasting impression on Leonard's pretty face.Comment

I'm the biggest Hagler Homer in the world, but he was psyched out by Leonard. SRL got into his head. Big gloves,big ring,12 rounds...Hagler gave him everything. That with his advanced age and the bad scoring(imo) he (Hagler) was doomed from the start.
I knew Marvelous was gone when he started to try and showboat in the final round, and then that unfortunate dance in the ring following the final bell..ouch..so out of character. To his credit, he retired and stayed retired when SRL refused to give him the rematch that he deserved. I realize that Donny LaLonde was a big name and all, but SRL ran like the wind from that rematch.
