Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr: I Won't Sacrifice Myself To Help Canelo Win

WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has refused to entertain Saul "Canleo" Alvarez's request for a catch-weight of 156-pounds. Alvarez's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, will only make the fight if Chavez agrees to a catch-weight of 156.

Funny how Jr wants the smaller man (Canelo) to move up in weight to fight at a catchweight, but he won't fight a middleweight his own size (Martinez) at the middleweight limit where he don't have to worry about a catchweight.

                Chavez /Canleo

Both of these guys need to prove they are real champions at their current weight. Chavez should fight Martinez and Canelo should fight Kirkland. If they are both standing then they should do down the line.

that title and situation goes both ways. canelo does'nt need to sacrifice himself to help you win neither. i swear chavez jr is the sorriest champion in mexican boxing history.

I agree, 156 is just impossible for Chavez Jr. Now he should forget about that and fight some real MWs, not just Manfredo and Ronald Hearns (even though he also withdrew from that fight) ... Fight Rubio or Lee or hell even Barker could be a good opponent.

Although I think I'm just fooling myself, the guy is most likely going to fight the winner of Margarito vs Cotto just to have a weight advantage on fight night.
