  • Comments Thread For: John Murray: I'll Beat Rios, Then Kevin Mitchell Defense!

Lightweight John Murray (31-1, 18KOs) is planning for immediate revenge. He challenges WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (28-0, 21KOs) on December 3rd at New York's Madison Square Garden, with the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito rematch headlining the card. Murray is returning from the first loss of his career, which Kevin Mitchell caused by an eight round stoppage in July. Murray is a big underdog in the fight with Rios, but plans to put together a direct strategy to confuse and beat the champion. If Murray upsets the odds, he wants to make his first defense of the title against Mitchell.

Lad's entitled to dream. But dreaming's all he's got, because Rios will smash him to pieces.

No way Murray even goes the distance. Even doing that would be an accomplishment for him. I still don't get why he got a title shot after losing his last fight.

So Murray has the longest winning streak in boxing and gets ignored but then he gets knocked out and all of a sudden he has his highest profile fight and a world title shot?

How does that work? I guess thats boxing for ya!

Mitchell has visa problems for fighting in the US, who's next in line after that? Yep you got it, John Murray. I think Rios will beat Murray comfortably. A Rios v Mitchell match up has tremendous potential, Mitchell is a world class boxer when his head is screwed on, he's got the lot attribute wise. The way he dismantled Murray after being out for over a year was beautiful.

He had the longest winning streak because he was untested even at domestic level until Mitchell knocked him the **** out. He's been exposed so its time for him to cash in against Rios, take another pounding then apply for a job at McDonalds.

Murray was doing well against Mitchell and he certainly did better than he did against Katsidis who definetly did expose Mitchell, Murray is underrated sure he will struggle against rios and so would Mitchell, but it wont be the walk over everyone thinks its gona be.

Wondered the same thing. No matter how talented Murray may or may not be, he just got TKO'd in a regional fight by a guy who had just gotten KO'd in his previous fight. It was a good fight, but he lost. And that earns him a "title fight?" This seems to happen all the time today, when every division has four to seven "champions."
