  • Comments Thread For: Bogere Stops Contreras; Contreras Leaves on Stretcher

In a sloppy, rough battle of undefeated Lightweights, 22-year old Ugandan Shairf Bogere (21-0, 13 KO) of Las Vegas, Nevada kept his perfect mark with some big right hands en route to a third round knockout of 27-year old Dominican Francisco Contreras (16-1, 13 KO) of Irvington, New Jersey, on Friday night at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last of the right hands caught Contreras in the back of the head and the defeated man would leave in medical duress.

agree that it was hard to figure out the fight-ending sequence -- but it did seem to me that Bogere hit him in the back of the head AND slammed his shoulder hard into Contreras's shoulder right before he went down -- aren't both illegal? -- the TV voices kept saying that Bogere hit him in the back of the head but never brought up the issue of this being an illegal punch -- this kind of thing was almost bound to happen in this fight because of the way they were grabbing, wrestling and pushing in close

Definitely was a punch to the back of the head. It was slightly difficult to see it on the video, but if you watch the replays and focus only on Contreras' head, you can very plainly see the impact of the punch landing.

On the broadcast, Nady was reported to have said that it was a legal punch because Contreras turned away from the punch.
