Comments Thread For: Lucian Bute: Glen Johnson is My Biggest Challenge

IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0k, 24KOs) is currently training in Florida for his next fight, on November 5 in Quebec, against former light heavyweight king Glen Johnson (51-15-2, 35KOs). Bute is very familiar with Johnson because they sparred for nearly 100 rounds in 2009. Bute considers Johnson the toughest and most experienced opponent that he's every faced.

He's right, they're also familiar with each other, I guess we'll see what happens.

Johnson WAS a very good fighter, never great, a nice guy, but he'll be nothing but target practice for Bute...

Sadly this version of Johnson at 50-something, is Bute's best opponent so far which doesn't say much considering Bute's long reign as a 'champion'.

But from that and to saying that Johnson is a threat there is a long way. Johnson will make Bute work for a few rounds and that's it.

I want to start by saying that I really like Johnson. However, out of the his last twelve fights five have been title fights and he has lost them all. He also can't beat anything resembling a world class fighter. So I have to ask, what did he do to deserve another title fight and when is enough, enough?

I definitely see your position, but he did put up damn good fights in all of the fights. . . I guess it's the lack of depth of the super middleweight division, and the fact that kessler and pavlik chose not to fight him. . .

i'd say johnson is about the best fight available for bute. . .

but i agree, Bute doesn't have the strongest resume - his best opponent up to this point is probably brian magee.
