How do you rank Angel Manfredy?

I was looking at some of his old fights this week and I realize I under appreciated him when he was active. He was a pretty solid all around fighter with speed, footwork, good pop, etc. I think he got a little too careless sometimes and lost focus which was his downfall.

I got to thinking a fight with him and Katsidis would be good prime for prime at Lw.

He was good contender.

Good solid contender was real pumped for his fights against Mayweather and Corrales but he proved the be below that level. Still against guys less than that he was real fun to watch a bit of a head case though.

The Gatti fight is great and the devil mask was a fun twist.

Angel was thinking about making a comeback earlier this year but after talking with his wife he decided to stay retired and focused on his kids and grandkids. He was a excellent fighter ....

I think those fights highlight his mental shortcomings. He had it all physically but was weak of mind.

I would say mostly physical, they were both able to hurt him and he wasn't able to do much about it, hard to really exploit someone mentally in a short fights like that.

I am sure there was a bit of a mental side to it though.

I remember Manfredy was a good fighter, good technically sound. Throws nice proper punchs. His coming out party was against Jorge Paez, followed by the Gatti fight, which that fight should have won Manfredy the title unfortunatly Gatti didn't put his title on the line against Manfredy. He got a more than a few chances at a title but won minor titles. Fun to watch. I personaly don't think he had a granite chin and thats what got him in trouble against Mayweather and Corrales in which i am sure no one thought Mayweather was going to come out with the pressure and demeanor. I think Marquez/Rios/Soto would still be too strong for Manfredy, i forget who else is at lightweight. I think his power was good but didn't have that one punch power at least at lightweight.

That would be a tough trio for him. Someone like Miguel Vazquez would give him trouble too which is why I though of Katsidis. He's got the power to take him out but he could also be outmaneuvered.

I am not familar with MV but Manfredy vs. Katsidas would be as great war. I actually don't think Katsidis has the power to ko Manfredy and Manfredy imo is more skilled than katsidis
