Comments Thread For: Khabib Allakhverdiev Shocks Nate Campbell in Russia

Olimp, Krasnodar, Russia - Junior welterweight "King" Khabib Allakhverdiev (15-0, 6 KOs) got the biggest win of his professional career after a sixth-round technical decision over former WBC/WBA/IBF lightweight champion Nate Campbell (34-9-1, 25 KOs). The end, however, was disastrous rather than satisfying for the occassional winner, as the contest was stopped in the middle of the sixth round after a horrible cut over the left eyebrow, sustained by Campbell.

I spoke with Mr. Campbell on Thursday, didn't even know he was fighting, just to check in. He said he was going to Russia. That cannot be sufficient time to acclimate to the time difference and everything of fighting in Russia.

Take away Campbell's one big win over Juan Diaz and a win over him is not such a big deal. And ever since that win he has not fought like a top fighter. But to be offered up as another past his prime fighter in Russia or Germany is still a bad way to go out.
