  • Comments Thread For: Canelo's Trainer: Chavez Jr. Fight is Pure Speculation

Edison Reynoso, the manager of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, said a possible fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in March of 2012, is pure speculation. Recently, Chavez's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank disclosed that he's negotiating with Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, and trying to make the fight for March 2012 in Las Vegas. Chavez, the WBC champion at 160, would face Alvarez at a catch-weight of 158-pounds, says Arum.

I have to wonder would the winner still be considered untested?

Cotto's a good fighter while I think Mosley should just retire

Someone like Shane Mosley...meaning someone with name value that has potential for creating buzz for a fight, drawing a good crowd at the Staples Center. BUT has no possible chance at winning and would be fighting...how come top guys don't face top guys at their division anymore...i can name at least 10 more live and deserving opponents than "someone like Shane Mosley" without putting much thought into it.

yes, it's "pure speculation" in the sense that will never actually happen -- Jr's people know better than to put him in there with Alvarez, who would destroy him....

damn, i'd rather see alvarez try mosley at 154 then chavez jr for some odd reason. if he was to face the winner of cotto/margs, that'd be crazy, major props to him if he were to step up like that.

I actually would love for Canelo to face Mosley, but for one reason and one reason only... Can Canelo knockout another iron chinned fighter? That would be another huge statement if he did.

Chavez Jr will step it up after his 100th win it seems. I never seen a fighter so protected like Jr. This is ridiculous.

well, I think Jr's people want him to go down as "the greatest undefefeated 'champion' who never beat a ranked fighter" in boxing history -- current title head by Ray Boom Boom Mancini...

Forget about Chaves. Shane, or Cotto would be a good High Profile test for Canelo.

Personally I want to see him take on El Perro. I want to see how he handles relentless pressure, from a person that wont shy away from his punching power.
