Comments Thread For: Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz: Pre-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - In a bold move, presumably with a mega-fight for the age$ still possible with Manny Pacquiao, lineal World Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is taking on a much younger, slightly bigger, legitimately dangerous foe. Mayweather has often been accused of being safe in his opponent choices, but for the second fight in a row (no matter his inactivity) he has opted for the next toughest man in class while the toughest, and he, make excuses to not fight each other and laugh all the way to the bank.

    Saturday is no laughing matter.

He is Mayweather. He is the favorite. He always is and for good reason. But this weekend? This weekend he is pitted against the most live ‘dog he’s seen in years.

    Does it matter?

Let’s go the report card. [Click Here To Read More]

As informative and interesting as ever. Just a little thing, unusual to see you spell the word "moot" as "mute". Mute of course means dumb, silent etc, whereas moot, means

Sorry, hit tag by accident, "moot" means either "debatable" "may not be applicable" etc.

Errors like this often creep into articles, and often make me wonder if the article is dictated by the writer and then transcribed by another.

I meant mute, meaning it's not being mentioned much right now (perhaps it should have been muted). Either way, know the difference and didn't mean moot.

Its sad that so much of that was about the ref. Cortezhas no business ref' ing big fights these days, he had such a bad rep that it will always leave us wondering if the fight is going to be decided because he wants a but of the spot light! Hes an unknown factor these days. The ref should be invisible, not something you worry about.

too safe of a synopsis! but maybe because all signs indicate nothing to the contrary, even for the most overzealous of sports writers. . . in my eyes this is almost certainly how the fight will play out; however, this is boxing, and we all know the possibility of **** getting real is one punch away.

here's to hoping for an excellent night of boxing! another night to forever be engrained in the fistic ages!

ortiz' pressure on chicken floyd will gradually fade when chicken floyd's elbow start to work...chicken floyd's elbow will distract ortiz' game plan...just like hatton...

Didnt Richard Steele rival Cortez as a moron referee?

Why couldn't they have gotten Bayless? He is a more respect ref than "fair but firm" Cortez. Bayless the fight ride out, minimal interference; Cortez on the other hand likes to be in pictures. I hope this will be a non-officiating issue fight.
