  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather Confident: Victor Won't Go The Distance

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is confident that Victor Ortiz is not going the twelve round distance on Saturday night, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Ortiz, making the first defense of his WBC welterweight title, has promised to make it a war. When Mayweather fought more seasoned opponents in the past, they had the experience to survive. Mayweather doesn't believe Ortiz has the ability to survive once he gets in trouble. He says the young champion, because of his inexperience, responds by fighting.

These quotes seem to be to make Ortiz attack less. JMM never went into survival mode, he kept coming forward until the final bell. Mayweatehr pressed the gas in the 11th and couldn't stop him.

I doubt Mayweather's going to KO Ortiz. It took him 10 rounds to stop Hatton, even though Hatton had been a sitting duck from the 7th round on (landing his jab at will).

I don't think the man is looking forward to take all the heat Ortiz is going to bring.

        Baldimor came to fight.

But to be fair. Baldo had a iron chin and Floyd broke his hand in the third round.

        Of course Castillo and Sosa.

Despite all this, Floyd has a decent shot at the KO IMO.

Berto made the mistake and didn't finish Ortiz off if Floyd gets him in trouble like Berto did he's going to finish him off

I 100% believe him. There are reasons for every knockout that didn't happen. Regarding JMM though, JMM did not go into survival mode. He also didn't go wreckless for the knockout.

I believe Ortiz will oblige and bring it Ricky Hatton style.

Floyd doesn't have the power to KO Ortiz, he has a slight shot at a TKO, but if in the position, I don't see him doing what's necessary to take him out (unless he feels he's losing on points, which will bring the dragon out).

The Hatton fight is a mirage (been hurt by Collazo and Lazcano). He caught him with a perfect counter shot after softening him up for 9+ rounds, 3 where he was hitting him at will. He will have to hurt Ortiz to take him out and I don't believe he will.

                    Bull****

Castillo came to fight, went the distance twice. Baldomir came to fight, went the distance. DLH came to fight, went the distance. SSM came to fight, went the distance. JMM came to fight, went the distance. Judah came to fight, went the distance. Hatton came to fight, made it ten rounds (though a few fights later he got crushed in two rounds by someone who's name escapes me).
