  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: Pacquiao Must Overcome Marquez's Counters

Three and a half years ago, in March 2008, Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KOs) fought his heart out against Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) for the second time. After earning a draw against Pacquiao in May 2004, Marquez was certain he had beaten him in the rematch.

They ought to charge Arum as an accomplice to murder for making this fight vs the old man Marquez.Think about it--- the very mediocre Katsidis put Marquez on his rear. Pac will get to him much sooner and will keep him down. At least JMM willmake some sweet $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If marquez's counterpunching style gives pacquiao problems imagine what mayweather, arguably this generations best counter puncher who also happens to be faster will do to pacquiao

If you think pac is just a one dimensional fighter then you don't know **** about boxing.

He's not. But i don't see any fundamental improvements from the Manny in 2008 to present day Manny in 2011. He's physically a stronger version of himself due to moving up in a higher weight division.

On November 12th, he will finally beat JMM in a convincing fashion, but it'll have more to do with him having the weight comfort zone over JMM more so than him being a more improved Boxer as of late.

I got to disagree with you there his aside from his strength and speed, his foot work has improved a great deal and he puts together much better combination then he ever has, especially in his fight with Margarito. There isn't a question that Pac gets hit a lot but no one ever claimed he was a defensive wizard, the difference between when he fought JMM and when he/if he fights floyd is Floyd doesn't have the chin he is going to need to stand up to pacs shots. Not to mention pac's hand speed is faster than Floyds, but this age old question won't be answered till they meet in the ring

Bob don't worry because Jmm will be more aggressive this time around he can't just stay on the outside and just box and counter like he did in the lower weight classes Pac is stronger and that straight left is way more powerful now he has to apply more pressure and keep Pac on his back foot he's not effective going backwards

He has not improved a whole lot but he can box more and he gives u a S** load of angles he can circle u turning u all the time so u r not set to punch he is still very unorthodox weird punching angles and can counter u coming in and put u at blind spots and he has a very strong right hand now and he didn't have that a few years back and also the natural weight has gotten him much stronger he still is Greece lightning but punching in pretty big for a man he's size the hits like a mule of a guy 5'6 and he's Defence has become good now he is no jr but he's good and still I think improving
