Comments Thread For: Vitali Klitschko-Tomasz Adamek: Pre-Fight Report Card

by Cliff Rold - It looks to most, comparing the build into the fights, to hold the promise of more excitement heading in than the July’s massive Wladimir Klitschko-David Haye did. So why does it feel, outside of Poland at least, like there really isn’t much going on this weekend at Heavyweight?

It might have something to do with the odds. No, not those set in casinos; the odds that are set in the mind’s eye of fight fans. It can be almost taken for granted that the challenger will show up, fight hard, and give a good show.

It is also seemingly taken for granted he probably can’t win. Everyone loves the underdog, but against someone as professional, as consistent, as the titlist defending this weekend, it’s difficult to imagine an upset when he sees the underdog coming.

Stranger things have happened and this fight merits every bit the build the previous Heavyweight Blockbuster-that-sure-as-hell-wasn’t. [Click Here To Read More]

good breakdown roaldie, but you failed to note the circumstances in vitali's "losses" to lewis and byrd. . . I think the way those fights were ACTUALLY PLAYING OUT are much more of an indication than the "record book". . . Either way, Adamek doesnt' have much of a chance in my eyes, and Vitali should force a corner stoppage sometime around the 8-10th. Look for some periods of two way action as adamek will be able to make his way inside and unleash a few combo's early on, but vitali will be landing just as much as adamek, and that is not good, not good at all for adamek.

im also hoping de leon can find a way to overcome gamboa's extraordinary explosive speed and power to make it a good fight.

He was injured against Byrd early on when Byrd made him miss like an oaf. He quit when he started getting tagged much later.

Lewis lost some early rounds but had worked back in and had Klit badly hurt before the bell to end the sixth.

I consider the circumstances. He lost and being ahead before losing does not a great fighter make. If only John Tate had ducked in 15 etc.

That said, Big Klit is still a very good fighter and I expect he wins today for the best win, in terms of quality, of his career.

        vitali is way too big.
if adamek tries to fight inside he's going to be tagged while going in, then held. expect vitali to use the holding technique, and drain the smaller man adamek quite a bit.
the thing is in a fight like this where you get tagged, and held the oponent is scoring ,and you are just wasting time.
i more or less expect a repeat of wlad-chambers, most likely a late KO or corner stoppage.
adamek has not the tools to beat vitali. his punches are too weak, and when vitali realizes this ,he's going to become more aggressive, and improve the workrate, which is gonna be too much for adamek. to beat vitali the first tool you need is to be able to hurt him.
adamek is a no hoper, and he cannot win this fight.

i guess if vitali beats adamek it will technically be the "best win" on his resume, but everybody knows that he was wrongfully denied the chance to rematch lewis, and how he forced lewis into retirement.

what about mccloskey/khan? mccloskey was making him miss pretty bad, but he wasn't doing NEARLY enough in return to win the fight. vitali lost maybe a round or two out of the 8 rounds to byrd, and he completely blew his shoulder out. everybody knows vitali beat byrd.

He wasn't denied anything. An older champion, who had fought a much higher quality of opposition than Vitali had before age 38 (and who didn't have a four year break) opted for retirement after surviving a younger, hungrier foe on short notice.

And he quit when Byrd started hitting him back. Khan didn't blow out his shoulder missing by and 2-3 feet on some shots (literally). Byrd-Vitali was more competitive than most recall, even if Vit was winning rounds. defense is a scoring criteria and Byrd was making Vitali look bad. Then Byrd won. The chances of that injury again, or Byrd repeating the feat? Probably a different matter.

Lewis and Byrd add some romance to Vitali for sure. he needs it. The rest of his record is abysmal. Take away avenging Sanders and its laughable to mention him with his brother in terms of quality opp or accomplishment.

vitali has this. he's going to drain the hell out of adamek. remember this post, when you watch the fight, and see vitali holding on to adamek with all his weight, then push him 2-3 steps backwards before the ref splits them apart. this and tagging adamek with accurate punches, i hardly expect vitali to lose a round in this fight.
i will be out tonite, so i won't be joining the RbR discussions but i already see how this is going to be played out.

ps: it's not gonna be vitali's best win, not a chance. might be a decent fight though.

                    Terrible report card.

Cliff Rold is a known Klitschko hater. He's just another butthurt xenophobic American moron who always tries to bash and discredit the Klitschkos.
