Exclusive: Fury vs Perez in the works

British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is being lined-up to face recent Prizefighter winner and fellow unbeaten prospect Mike Perez at the King’s Hall in Belfast on 17 September. The fight will be screened live on Channel 5.

“An offer has been made to Perez’s team and we’re waiting to hear back from them now,” revealed Hughie Fury, the Uncle and trainer of Tyson to BoxRec News. “Perez is a good fighter, a southpaw, and is well known in Ireland (the Cuban has based his career in Ireland) so hopefully we’ll be able to get the fight on. Tyson sparred with Perez just prior to him turning pro – he held his own in the first session and in my opinion he dominated the second session,” added Hughie.

Tyson, who turned 23 on Saturday, is looking to build on his career-best victory over Dereck Chisora last month which has elevated the Manchester giant to a no.15 ranking with the WBC. Belfast cab driver, and former Prizefighter winner, Martin Rogan surprisingly turned down the opportunity to fight Fury last week leaving Tyson’s promoter, Mick Hennessy, to explore other options, which have included Liverpool’s David Price.

”We can’t understand why Rogan turned the fight down. We gave him everything he asked for, he dared to criticise Tyson in the press but when it came down to it he never had any intention of facing him,” stated Hughie Fury.

I'm not so sure Perez will win, people underestimate Fury.

It's a dangerous fight for both at this point in their careers.

Id pick Perez by decision, but he hasnt fought anyone decent yet, or fought that many rounds, 12 rds would be a big ask against a much bigger man.

Perez is the better of the 2 and has more potential imo, even though it might be a little too soon for him I still fovour him atm but wouldnt be surprised if Fury got the win. I didnt expect him to beat Chisora tbh.

Tyson Fury has big balls if this is true, one undefeated prospect after another.

Have you ever actually SEEN Mike Perez fight? I bet you haven't.

There's LOTS of good young HWs coming up, like Perez, Glazkov, Boytsov, Pala, Price, Mitchell, etc.

                    From The Ring website today:

Cuban heavyweight Mike Perez, who now fights out of Cork, Ireland, is being touted as a potential next opponent for Tyson Fury .

After Irish veteran Martin Rogan suddenly decided against facing British and Commonwealth beltholder Fury (15-0, 10 knockouts) on Sept. 17 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, promoter Mick Hennessy is searching for a new matchup.

And it appears unbeaten Perez (16-0, 12 knockouts), winner of the first-ever International Heavyweights Prizefighter tournament in London in May, is the most likely candidate to fill the void.

Hughie Fury, uncle and trainer of the 23-year-old Manchester prospect, confirmed on boxrec.com that offers have been made to Perez and another up-and-coming English heavyweight, David Price.

The power-packed Perez, 25, whose stocky frame and explosive style has been likened to Mike Tyson, would certainly provide a decent examination of Fury’s talents.

As would Price (11-0, 9 KOs). However, it seems the 28-year-old from Liverpool is likely to stick with his British title eliminator against John McDermott, on Nov. 5, rather than jump straight into the ring with Fury.
