Comments Thread For: Danny Williams Faces Al Cole in Karlstad, Sweden

Heavyweight veteran Danny Williams, from the UK but with a Latvian license and a controversial loser to Manuel Charr last time out, takes on former cruiserweight king and true old-timer in Al "Ice" Cole on September 3 in Karlstad, Sweden. The press release from Pugnus Promotion doesn´t reveal over which distance these two will fight but 12 minutes is the max distance in Sweden with ten ounce amateur gloves worn in all fights. There are exceptions from the distance rule and one take place in the main event on this show where Frida Wallberg defends the WBC jr lightweight title over ten two-minute rounds against Canadian Olivia Gerula.

Heavy irony going on here. First, Sweden goes all health-and-safety and bans pro boxing for decades, then it gives the sport the green light again only to sanction a fight that's been put together by grave robbers. Sad.
