Matthew Macklin went into last week’s WBA “super” middleweight title challenge to Felix Sturm, now 36-2-1 (15), as a massive underdog, seen by many as the ideal foil for Sturm’s considered boxing style. Macklin, though, tore up the script by tearing into the 32-year-old titlist before losing via a controversial split decision.

I had the fight 114-114. It was a great fight. A FOTY candidate if the jury looks to this side of the pond. A rematch would be welcome for all fans I'm sure. Sturm also said that he'd give Mac a rematch which would be in Cologne again.

Personally I think Sturm fought the wrong fight, allowing Mac to take the fight to the inside so Sturm had little use of his stellar jab.

As a curiosity check out how vain Sturm is. He arrived at the postfight presser wearing a heavy dose of TV makeup:

I agree Nelson, I thought Sturm could have fought a better fight.

Another excellent article there young Terrance.

Joe Gallagher is the sort of guy that makes a chap proud to be British. There’s not many of them left. He’s a genuine class act.

Matt Macklin is the sort of guy that makes a chap proud to be a Boxing fan. Not many of them left either.

I tip the hat of my both deceased and fictional avatar picture dog to the pair of you.

Thanks for the reads guys. It was an interesting fight. Scores ranging from 115-113 either way or 114-114 seem a fair reflection. The 116-112 scores are not nor the 117-111 cards in Matt's favour. No way was this a 9-3 fight either way. The rematch will be boss.

Nelson, good to see/hear from you. Hope you're doing well.
