  • Live Round by Round Coverage; Roy Jones Jr. vs. Antonio Tarver 3

Antonio Tarver (23-3, 18 KOs) called out Roy Jones (49-3, 38 KOs) in their first two meetings. This time around, it was Jones that called out Tarver. Should Jones beat Tarver, after two back-to-back knockout losses and 12 months of inactivity, he will redeem himself to an extent. He can't erase being knocked out twice, but he will prove that he does have the championship heart and ability to beat the best, even if he is past his prime.

A win over Tarver would be one of Jones' crowning moments and will allow him to end his career on a very high note. He would prove everyone wrong that said he was crazy to return and that he is a shot fighter with a glass jaw.

For Tarver, he has everything to lose and not much to gain. If he stops Jones, he would win their trilogy and gain some bragging rights, but it would do very little to raise his career. The reality of the situation is that Jones was knocked out in his last two outings, and knocking him out for the third time in a row would not be a spectacular feat. Tarver was the first man to stop him, but Glen Johnson knocked out Jones on a whole other level. But, should Tarver lose, his career would never recover and more than likely, he would never be considered great. He would only be considered as a light heavyweight with a style that gave Roy Jones trouble.

A loss for Tarver would leave him with very little direction to reestablish his career. There is nobody name worthy at 175, but Glen Johnson and the fans are not necessarily screaming for the two of them to fight again. Cruiserweight champion Jean Moremeck has a similar style to Glen Johnson, but is much stronger and would give Tarver some serious trouble. Regardless, Moremeck is unknown to the majority of the boxing public. I can't see any of the super middleweights moving up to face Tarver, if he is beaten by Jones. [details]
