According to Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, a potential Mexico vs. Puerto Rico pay-per-view grudge fight, between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Miguel Cotto, would take place on either October 1 or October 8, with Las Vegas as the likely location. On Saturday in Los Angeles, Chavez captured the WBC middleweight title with a twelve round decision over Sebastian Zbik. Cotto is the current 154-pound champion of the WBA. No information was specified on whether Cotto will go up to the full middleweight limit.

Why are people surprised by this? They were talking about this fight a bit back. It's taken Chavez too long to achieve even a modicum of real recognition with a paper belt for them to throw him to the wolves straight away. I'd prefer the Martinez fight too, but you knew that wasn't going to be the first choice. Martinez shouldn't wait around sulking. Take another fight to keep his momentum hot while Chavez takes care of Cotto. A little more luster on Chavez from a Cotto win will make Martinez beating him look that much better.

If Cotto loses to Chavez, won't that kill Cotto as a cash cow? If Cotto beats Chavez, won't that kill Chavez as a cash cow?

After Cotto, Chavez will fight El Veneno Rubio in May 2012...

So a Martinez fight only will happen at summer of 2012
