Comments Thread For: Merchant's Take on Possibly Matching Pacquiao-Marquez

During a recent interview with HBO analyst Larry Merchant, we discussed the aftermath of Manny Pacquiao's recent victory over Shane Mosley and took a look at the Filipino star's future plans. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum fully has the intention of pairing up his star fighter with Juan Manuel Marquez for a third go round yet that scenario is a bit complicated, to say the least. Pacman vs Marquez is much much better than Marquez vs Ortiz!

Pacman has very Good Resume and has proven his worth in PPV!

But if they are interested in keeping Marquez, then Golden Boy will do all they could to have Marquez fight Ortiz.

I wouldn't mind GBP shelving JMM. This forces Top Ranks hand and we probably end up with Pac vs Bradley.

Pac vs. Bradley is the best we can hope for, outside of Pac vs. Mayweather.

Golden Boy need to give it up. How can they afford to pay Marquez 5 million+ in a fight against Ortiz? They didn't even want to pay Marquez 2 million to fight a legend in Morales. Neither Marquez nor Ortiz are proven PPV attractions, and there is no gaurantee the fight does more than 250K. It's foolish and they're only considering it due to their bitterness towards Top Rank. The Top Rank embargo on them is self inflicted, they should never have tried to taint Pacquiao as a drug cheat, it was blind ******ity. They should let Marquez have his fight, after all they do say they are for the fighters. He's 38 and they can still work with him after the Pac fight.

Haha, Oscar De La Hoya, giving away money of his own? About the same chance as Arum or Don King doing so. Well, not true, Arum atleast is paying for Genaro Hernandez's cancer treatment, a fighter he never promoted, but you know what I mean. De La Hoya is THE greediest person in boxing. I remember him paying Yory Boy Campas only 100K when he made 11 million, and he killed the Trinidad rematch because he didn;t want to pay Tito what he was worth.

I concur and i hope it does but i also see Timmy fight Khan first and if Timmy wins, he should face Pacman. Now that would be exciting for boxing fans.
