Comments Thread For: Sulaiman Considering Hernandez vs Keb Rematch Order

Due to the controversy that prevailed after the victory of Adrian Hernandez, last Saturday in Texcoco Mexico, and the courage showed by the now former WBC light flyweight world champion, Gilberto Keb Baas, the WBC headed by Jose Sulaiman Chagnon is considering to make a rematch between these two warriors.

Minus as the BS rhetoric of the WBC, if we did get Hernandez-Keb Baas rematch, it appears it would be for the RING title at 108.

Today RING announced that Hernandez is moving to the #1 spot and Keb Bass is now #2. Giovani Segura has made it very clear that he will fight next at 112, so there is a good chance he will be stripped/vacate. One potential holdup is that RING admitted that the rankings are somewhat of a mad scramble, so the rankings could change before the 1 vs. 2 rematch fight occurs. Specifically, it looks like RING is poised to move Roman Gonzalez up quickly.

Hopefully, a new RING champ can be crowned (assuming Giovani Segura changes classes).

If this is correct, ring magazine is a horrendous joke. how do you rank keb baas, with 20+ losses as #2 when you have roman martinez, ulisses solis and principe garcia all clearly much better than him? give me a break, ring!

RING bases their rankings heavily on the guy who beat the guy who beat the guy... Much of his high ranking is that he beat Omar Nino (who was rated like #2 or #3 at the time).

Roman Gonzalez (I think you meant him and not Martinez) fought mostly at 105. RING gives a lot of weight to how fighters perform in the division they are fighting. I think if he wins a few sold fights at 108 he will shoot up the rankings.

I agree you have arguments for the other two fighters you listed. However, I dont think the 20 losses of Keb Baas is a deal breaker. He is 7-1-1 in his last 9 fights. I would rather see a fighter fight a lot of times against good opposition and lose than have a guy be protected.

Many hall of fame fighters have lots of losses: Sugar Ray Robinson (19), Tony Zale (18), Jake LaMotta (18), Archie Moore (23), and Henry Armstrong (21). Obviously Keb Bass is nowhere near the level of these guys (or has fought that many times), but I dont think losses, especially losses early in a career, mean a fighter is not talented.
