While Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales were making their imprints in the sport near the turn of the century, their countryman Juan Manuel Marquez seemed to be hiding in the shadows a bit. Despite sporting a sterling record of 29-1 with 22 knockouts in 1999, the only loss being his first pro fight in which he was disqualified in the first round, Marquez's only true following seemed to be on the West Coast and he hoped to change all of that with his first title shot against WBA featherweight champion Freddie Norwood in September of that year. 10-8
After ten world titles in eight weight divisions, Juan Manuel Market, is
still unconvinced that the congressman is the greatest boxer who ever lived.
Be careful what you wished for; you might get it.
The next time you're knocked down you will never get up.
Rest in peace amigoComment

the thing is.
if pac won by scores of 115-113, 114-113, 114-112, then there wouldnt be much debate as there is/was...
but because it was close and marquez won on 1 out of 3 judges in both fights, then ofcoures there has been/still is alot of debate
if you look at the final punch stat, i believe marquez outlanded pac by a total of 10 punches in each fight #1 and #2...so marquez outlands pac by 10 punches but gets dropped 3 times in the first fight...in this fight, it was close if you take away the 3 knockdowns, i had it 6 rounds to 6...some of this rounds couldve gone either way
then again marquez outlanded pac by about 10 punches total in the 2nd fight, but get knocked down once...again, i had this fight 6 rounds to 6, some of these rounds couldve gone either way...
so there you go, back then, no matter how many times they fought, pac would knock down marquez atleast once, the rounds could go either way, the fight could go split or a draw...and people will still complain.
now to the present day...while pac has improved by the factor of 10 and has fought a few years over marquez's fighting weight while showing better boxing skills and having using both hands with power, add that pac has a constant jab too as well...side to side, and in and out movements...far from the brawling, one handed fighter that pac was when he fought marquez...on the other hand, marquez of the past is the same marquez of the present...so i dont see how this third fight will be the same...HOW DOES AN OLD TROJAN HORSE (MARQUEZ) OF 3 YRS AGO INFECT A NEW AND IMPROVED ANTI VIRUS (PACQUIAO) OF THE PRESENT? Access denied & Quaranteened trojan variant = backdoor.jm.marquez.3 * Risk Level = Low *Last edited by indystress; 05-02-2011, 12:50 PM.Comment

This comment is for idiots who won't face reality...........
Look. Tell MARQUEZ to stop getting knocked down!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has he ever knocked MANNY down??? EXACTLY. In a close fight that is the difference when the action is going back and forth like that. You can't give it to the fighter who keeps getting knocked down. And the MANNY he fought wasn't even developed yet. LoL. He was a 1-2 power dummy. This version of MANNY I call MANNY 2.0 will K.O. MARQUEZ I believe. Be careful what you ask for. MOSLEY will find that out on SATURDAY for those who are wishing for an upset. Same thing with HOPKINS/PASCAL. Tell B-HOP to not get knocked down this time and mabe he has a shot.......wait a minute, NO HE DOESN'T. This win will be a clear cut one for PASCAL.Comment

you have that wrong marquez outlanded pac in the first fight by 10 punches total and 30 punches yes 30 punches total in the second fight, plus he took more rounds thats why its a dispute, pac didnt expect to win that fight it was etched all over his face, regardless of now jmm shouldve been awarded the victory.the thing is.

ok, so even if marquez outlanded pac by 30 punches, that aint much difference if u stretech it out to 12 rounds...which would only equate to marquez out landing pac by only 2 to 3 punches per round...how do u justify being out punched by only 2 to 3 punches equate to winning those rounds? ive seen boxers win a round while being out punched...yes alot of those rounds were close and couldve gonne either way, but the knockdowns in fights 1 and 2 also made a differenceyou have that wrong marquez outlanded pac in the first fight by 10 punches total and 30 punches yes 30 punches total in the second fight, plus he took more rounds thats why its a dispute, pac didnt expect to win that fight it was etched all over his face, regardless of now jmm shouldve been awarded the victory.Comment

i saw only one close round in the second pac-marquez fight, round 7, besides that the fight was close, but clear, either marquez won a round or pacquiao won a round
and people should'nt read too much into compubox, it's very innacurate, tho i do think marquez's landing percentage was higher, there was a round or two where he missed alot and landed nothing of significanceComment
