Comments Thread For: Karmazin Reflects, Says Very Few Get Rich in Boxing

Former junior middleweight world champion Roman Karmazin (40-4-2, 26KOs) says boxing is a sport where very few fighters walk away rich. Karmazin, 38-years-old, announced his retirement after suffering a bad knockout to Daniel Geale in October. He wants to start a new life by training a few fighters, writing a book on boxing and plans to open a small hotel in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The guy sounds like he had hangers on, just like Tyson. A shame. His book sounds like it could be a great read.

I'm gonna keep a look out or this planned hotel of his. Would love to support a boxer-owned business. As long as it doesn't turn out to be one of those chic boutique hotels that costs $500 a night.

Sounds like sour g****s to me. The guy had enough money to give his family a half of million whatever and has enough to open a small hotel and can live off he has made to be a full time writer. Sounds like boxing did him well. I wish I could give my family a half of million dollars.

Common Check. Russian Rubles aren't US dollars.

No idea what the conversion rate is and what things in Russia usually cost, but it still sounds like he didn't watch his wallet close enough. I recall Charlie "Russian Pride" Zellenoff was supposed to be trained by Karmazin. I wonder if that fell through or Roman wasn't paid for his services.

The man speaks the truth very few fighters ever garner the popularity it takes to draw huge purses,a couple of my buddies who were solid pros barely sc**** by these days.

He was robbed against Spinks as well. Roman at his best was a very classy and dangerous fighter. He could box and punch. He was trully MADE IN HELL.

500,000 rubles is just under 18 grand....

Really isn't that much for the time he put into the sport
