That must have been a very serious ailment, since the comon spinal surgery, for a herniated disc takes about an hour. There may have been a lot of reconstruction there of some sort. Ever since he went on that crash diet which brought hs weight down by more than half, from 400 lbs to what looed like about 160-70, he has walked with avery pronounced stoop, which seemed to be getting worse. A sort of severe "dowager hump".

I wish him well as I believe him to be one of the very few honest, sincere promoters in the business.

Yea, I remember the first time I saw him he was like a whale, then suddenly later he's all slim!

Yeah, there's a boxing documentary out there where you see him losing his promotional contract with Rahman to Don King.

Sure, he and Sauerland were bribing the IBF, but so was everyone else, and he at least did it for good reasons. Much respect to him and hope he gets better soon.

The first time I actually saw him was in a 2 hour documentary, all about how Don King stole Hasim Rahman away from him after he'd brought Rahman to the title by KO'ing Lewis. It was really pathetic, he was begaving like a gentleman and King and Rahman were behaving like Mafia gangsters.

The story was told during an amble around the park with Kushner discussing it with the interviewer. What had happened was, that Rahman's contract had expired very shortly after the fight. Rahman was now Champion and Kushner had a huge deal all ready for Rahman to sign. Rahman was grateful to him for all he'd done for him, and he trusted Rahman.

This was supposed to happen in Kushner's hotel room one evening, and Rahman apparently had left him and intended to return. What happened was that King waylaid Rahman at Rahman's hotel showed him a suitcase full of bills, about $500,000 and there and then Rahman grabbed the money and signed with King.

In the meantime Kushner was relaxing on his bed, waiting for rahman to return, and he waited....and waited..... and phoned, and waited.....

And that's how King stole Rahman from Kushner. Rahman, as you know, went downhill from there and is now still fighting, or needing to fight, and basically a poorly respected hasbeen. When I saw Kushner after he had lost all his weight, I didn't recognise him at first. I thought, what a sick looking fellow. he was skinny, VERY stooped so that when looking straight ahead, he's see only the floor, a definite spinal deformity.

Poor guy. But honest. Look how he paid Demetrice King the other week for his fight against Tua, after the promoter, who was not Kushner, cheated him. He took the money out of his own pocket and gave it to him, because he was a poor man, and needed it.

What I liked was that King announced that he had been paid, and that when he contacted Mr. Kushner for help, Kushner said not to worry he'd make sure he was paid. King said that once he heard Mr. Kushner say that he knew everything would be OK.

That is a HUGE recommendation for a promoter in these scaly times.

The Rahman-King story reminds me of how Oscar tried to pull the same scam on Manny P. when he was actually still under contract to Top Rank. Also the very recent similiar trick with Donaire, who is STILL under contract to Top Rank, until end of June 2013.
