Comments Thread For: Matthew Macklin Withdraws From Khoren Gevor Bout

Hatton Promotions have confirmed that they received word yesterday that Matthew Macklin, 28-2 (19) has decided to withdraw from his April 16th WBA title eliminator against Khoren Gevor. The Sun has reported that the 28-year-old cited ‘contract issues’ when making his decision and the rumour has since cranked into life, with anyone from current WBA incumbent Felix Sturm to the winner of May 7th’s IBF middleweight title fight between Australia’s Daniel Geale and holder Sebastian Sylvester, said to be in the frame should ‘Mack The Knife’ jump straight in for a world title.

Macklin needs to get his act together. Not only has been through every trainer and promoter under the sun, but he is consistently a let down, may be sometimes not to his own fault. Barker fight fell through, then Winky Wright and now Gevor.

Bigger question is, what is Gevor, who has lost two of his last three fights, including a one-sided title loss to Sartison at 168, doing in another "eliminator." Can't they at least find somebody who didn't lose badly in his last time out?

The fight with Sartisan wasn't so "one-sided".

If you look at his overall record, Gevor is a decent fighter.

            disappointing.

Maybe he thinks he could get paid more for a similar-level fight that would top the bill.
