Comments Thread For: James Kirkland Working Down To 154-Pounds, Says Dunkin

Fresh off of his consecutive, over-the-middleweight limit knockouts that were scored over the course of a two-week span, it appears that southpaw junior middleweight contender, James Kirkland, will return to the ring on April 9 against an opponent to be determined, his manager, Cameron Dunkin, told BoxingScene.com.

Kirkland needs a two more tune ups this year, then bring on Angulo and Cintron.

Kirkland is def. a Beast* Hes Main weakness is D-fence tho..He has NONE! gets hit way too much. I saw his fight againts John Berrio and saw future problems with better caliber fighters. Angulo is No Joke! Hopefully they give him acouple of more tune up fights before throwing him in with EL Perro*

none of those guys will fight kirkland anytime soon. i mean, yea kirkland is flawed but most of those guys have plenty of flaws of their own. the toughest fight in the bunch is alvarez.

kirkland should slowly up hes competition and train like animal and come down to 154 and at this weight he has the better power and better speed and i thought for some reason was more defensively alert even though gets tagged most of the time but i still think he has better head movement than Angulo and margarito...but cotto is at this weight class i mean he has the biggest name at 154 so i think james should work hes way up to fight cotto and finally get a title shot and a big name in hes resume win or loose but he is must watch every fight and alot people gona keep a eye on him in the future..

I see Kirkland getting hurt and maybe stopped in the near future.

Ten tune-ups will not help unless he learns some defense and head movement. I think a peek-a-boo defense with side to side head movement (like a young Tyson) would work well for him. And somebody should tell Adams that 158 is four pounds over the junior middleweight limit, not two...

Their goal is for him to get down to 158 for his next upcoming fight in three weeks, after that he'll be at 154.

It's a process. People forget he just spent 2 years in jail and was reportedly as high as 190-200 pounds. He can't just immediately fight at 154.
