Comments Thread For: David Tua Dominates Demetrice King To Win Decision

At the TelstraClear Pacific in Manukau City, New Zealand, heavyweight contender David Tua (52-3, 43KOs) dominated tough journeyman Demetrice King (15-20, 13KOs) over ten rounds to win a unanimous decision. Tua was blazing with big punches early, attempting to get an impressive early knockout. King is durable and withstood Tua's blows to the head and body in the early rounds. The pace didn't change as the fight continued. King shook off the punches and often countered with taunts. Tua displayed improved stamina, yet King spoiled the party by surviving until the final bell.

I don't think a decision win over a tomato can is what Tua was looking for.

Good to see tua use his jab more, it was actually really effective throughout the fight. He also looked in good shape...for 112kgs (247lbs).

Not sure where he can go from here, he seems to have lost the drive to finish fights and him beating any major title holders would be unlikely at this point.

A rematch with Barrett is where he goes, most likely.

He either wins that one or it's really over.

Wasn't that the original plan? I mean did he not take this fight because the Barrett rematch fell through?

He won 15 times with 13 KO's. He lost 19 but only got knocked out once. Other 18 losses were points.

Records can be deceiving e.g. Glen Johnson, Emmual Augustus, etc...

As to the thread topic, good to hear that Tua was in shape and got some good work in, over ten rounds...

No, this was supposed to be a tune-up for the rematch. It's not 100% on though.

I believe King fought on the undercard of Bradley/Alexander. That dude is a straight up BUM.
