The problem with Manfredo as an opponent is that he will wait until november to fight again like Blackirish was saying. Martinez is not a fighter like the Nonito Donaire/Fernando Montiel/other fighters who fight frequently in the smaller weight divisions. Manfredo is the type of guy you fight in December and then you fight in February again like Donaire did.

He's 36 and has an HBO backing now. They aren't going to give him a september date. Especially since he's 36, he shouldn't waste his time fighting Manfredo, who has nothing to earn a title shot.

If people feel bad for Manfredo spending all his money, they should give him an undercard spot. That's fine, but I want to see Martinez fight Pirog or someone else. I know Alfredo Angulo hasnt done anything to earn a title shot either, but that's a lot more interesting of a name/fight.

Manfredo got blown out by Bika a couple of years ago. Sure he's a better fighter at 160, but how much? How about this scenario:

Martinez vs Angulo/Pirog in July with Leimeux/Jacobs vs Manfredo on the undercard. Manfredo gets a nice payday, more more than what he has been making, and then the fight fans get what they want.

I think DiBella's angst is misplaced. It wasn't Pirog that stripped Martinez it was the WBO. Also, why shouldn't Pirog be able to fight for a vacant title? Maybe I'm missing something here....

I agree with you that's why I question it myself.

Are you sure Pirog is better than Golovkin?

dibella is full of sh-it. plain and simple. martinez was stripped of the wbc and wbo belts but he's more than happy to fight the winner of zbik-chavez jr for his old wbc belt. but he's unwilling to fight pirog who has his old wbo belt.

remember dibella saying "thats our belt! pirog stole it! we won't fight him." didn't chavez jr/zbik steal your belt as well? huh buddy what happened there?

at the moment pirog is better. he's beaten the better fighters and he's been on hbo. fight makes more sense right now.

I think if DiBella pitches Manfredo as an opponent they may counter with Andy Lee. After watching Lee pull out the gutsy victory last Sat, I think he's a viable stay busy opponent; much more so than Manfredo...

Andy Lee's people have said he's not ready.

                    That might be a non-starter

I've heard of exactly 1 fighter on Pirog's resume, and 0 on Golovkin's.

Are you basing that claim off of Danny Jacobs, or do you seriously know some of these obscure European fighters? If you do kudos...
