Comments Thread For: Rocky Martinez-Luis Cruz is Done For Juanma-Salido Bill

The fight is back on. BoxingScene.com was advised by Gaby Penagaricano, of Miguel Cotto Promotions, that undefeated Luis Cruz (17-0, 14KOs) has accepted the offer to face former world champion Roman "Rocky" Martinez (24-1-1, 15KOs) in a Showtime televised bout on April 16 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Cruz-Martinez will be the television opener to the featherweight clash between WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez and challenger Orlando Salido.

Since Cotto is promoting Cruz, I think he took some time to explain to Cruz how big was this unique opportunity for him, the guy seemed with no interest at all.

He understood it: its a unique opportunity but a dangerous one for an up and coming fighter and he made the smart move (considering that he had levarage since Showtime would only televise the undercard with him in it) and made sure he was paid accordingly. Its a good fight but El Artesando should (weak should) win. He is more talented and has a much higher upside but is young.

This fight probably convinced me to see it live.

Cruz trains at my gym, he's a real humble guy and has an unmatched work ethic. No one comes close to the guy in terms of the work he puts in beside the usual stuff(sparring, heavy bag, speed bag, etc.)

On top of that he has speed, power, and conditioning. I have no doubt he'll KO Rocky, too bad because I like Rocky's heart and guts.
