Jose Antonio “Jaguar” Aguirre has decided to hang up the gloves after his ninth round TKO loss to countryman and WBC light flyweight Champion Gilberto Keb Baas on Saturday. The 35-year-old Aguirre from Cardenas, Tabasco, Mexico closes the curtain on a 16-year career that saw him fight some of the best boxers in the strawweight and light-flyweight class. Aguirre’s best success was in the strawweight division, where he reigned as WBC 105lb champion for over three years from 2000-2003 and defended his title nine times. During his golden years, Aguirre racked up a 31-1-1 record. He was less successful as a light-flyweight, losing title bids for the WBA, IBF and WBC crowns. Jose Antonio Aguirre retires with a final tally of 35-10-1 with 21 KOs.
