For years, the lightweight division has been in search for youth to be served at the top.

Brandon Rios may not be the man just yet, but he certainly arrived with a vengeance.

The 24-year old overcame a deep hole early on to eventually overwhelm streaking Miguel Acosta via 10th round knockout in their alphabet title fight Saturday evening at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

Rios Marquez would be similar to Katsidis Marquez - Juan Manuel would be simply too good and beat Rios at his own game with a supreme inside game. Given how easy Rios is to hit, and how accurate and heavy handed Marquez can be, I can't see Rios walking through Marquez the way he did Acosta, especially given how Acosta hurt Rios a few times in that fight.

Acosta was doing good early but doesn't have enough pop to get the respect from Rios and eventually breaking him down late.

If this were Mythical Matchups, I'd agree with you 100%. On paper, this is how such a fight would go down.

But in reality, Marquez-Rios will be similar to Jones-Michalczewski - a fight that should've happened, but never did.

Sadly, I don't see it happening. If Marquez stays with Golden Boy, he'll most likely vacate his belt(s) and search for bigger money fights at higher weight classes.

If he bolts from Golden Boy, my guess is that all of his time and attention is focused on securing a third fight with Pacquiao.

Either way, I'm firmly convinced that this fight never happens and that we may have seen the last of Juan Manuel Marquez as a lightweight champion.

I agree Jake, JMM is too technical and too methodical even at this stage of his career. However even though Katsidis is as tough as Rios he is not the power puncher Rios is and Katsidis has been in more wars than Rios and is 7 years older I believe. I give JMM the edge just out of track record and overall skill but it wouldn't shock me if Rios manages a stoppage in a similar fashion to his win against Acosta.

I agree with this one. JMM has the edge but not impossible for Rios to beat him.
