Comments Thread For: Erik Morales: Beating Marcos Maidana is Not Impossible

Many believe former champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35KOs) is up against an impossible task when he returns to the ring on April 9 against hard punching junior welterweight Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Morales is a 4-1 betting underdog and the number could get higher. Morales understands his position. He says the comments of concern are fueling his motivation to win. Morales wants to prove everyone wrong, as he did in the first fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2005.

No it isn't Erik. And that should tell you how far you are removed from your prime.

              Morales Is Delusional!

Erik Morales has always had a heart of a Champion. He probably does think he can win this fight against Maidana. He'll train hard, and come to fight. The problem he has is that he's living back in the day when he fought Pacquiao...how many years ago??? Manny wasn't remotely close to the fighter then, as he is now. Manny would blow Morales out in three rounds today. Maidana will get Morales out in five. Erik Morales has NO chance to beat Maidana, and has NO chance of going the distance. He's had too many wars. He's fighting a younger, larger, stronger fighter towards the peak of his career, and Morales is well past his prime. His reflexes will be slow, he'll get beat to everyone punch, not be able to avoid punches, especially the punches he won't see coming. This fight won't bode well for him, and this fight will sadly retire Erik Morales.

i dont have a lot of points and i've never bet against anyone on here before but i just have a funny feeling about this one. i dont think morales is as nuts as most people think he is. i think he can beat maidana who i think is a pretty one dimensional fighter. he only looked good against khan because khan got into a pissing contest with him. if morales fights smart then i see no reason why he cant do to maidana what hopkins has done to many a younger, stronger opponent. i'll bet whatever i have on morales winning a split.

Most of those funny feelings turn out to be VERY funny, like in this case. No way no how is Morales beating Maidana. Did you watch the Kahn fight? Dude was lucky to get to the end of that fight. Morales is going to want a war, and that is a HUGE huge mistake. He's getting knocked out in less than 5.
