  • Comments Thread For: Fernando Montiel Eyes Vazquez-Arce Winner, Mijares Next

If WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel is successful later tonight when he defends his belts against Nonito Donaire at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, he plans to move up in weight to challenge the winner of Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. vs. Jorge Arce. The unbeaten Puerto Rican, Vazquez, will defend his WBO super bantamweight title against Arce on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard on May 7.

I was just about to make a thread asking how Vazquez Montiel would play out at 122.

He better worry about tonight first.

Nishioka is tough. I don't think that's an easy task at all and in Japan too.

Nishioka went to Mexico and bombed out Jhonny G in 3.

Donaire is no joke but IF he gets by Nonito Montiel and Vazquez would be exciting at jrfw. How would you see that fight playing out if it was made?

I honestly like WV2 by ko in that one and kinda early.

Even though he's half as experienced, he's a strong kid, and I don't see Montiel wading in on him without getting lit up.

Why is Jhonny Gonzalez writing articles about his former opponent?

if montiel boxes he'll win,he does box well,he used to be more of a boxer, but if he starts trading i think he'll lose,i think he's just a small bantam, and if he goes up it's worse, vazquez is a pretty big jr feather as it is,it would have to do with how montiel decides to fight him...i would rather see him fight a ranked fighter first at 122

i remember idiots here saying "why does wv2 want to fight guys smaller than him?" so much for that, both donaire and montiel want to fight him.

He must be having problems with weight; otherwise why move up? Bantamweight is the hottest division in boxing; Darchinyan, Agbeko, Yonnhy Perez, Abner Mares, Anselmo Moreno, a Donaire rematch. ****, Montiel againt any of those guys would be a great fight
