Comments Thread For: Jan Zaveck Hopes Delgado Win Leads To America

The IBF welterweight world champion, Jan Zaveck (30-1, 17 KOs), is preparing the third defense of his title on February 18 at Sportpark Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, against Paul Delgado (25-9-1, 4 KO) of America. Zaveck hopes that the fight against the American might be his ticket to a career in the United States. Zaveck wants to face the big names in the welterweight division. He is taking the fight with Delgado very seriously.

Zaveck should fight Berto on HBO.

But Berto doesn't accept challenges from welterweights, only junior welterweights.

And Greenburg would try to have Jan fight someone he's more likely to lose to, such as a boxer at 160 or 154 like Sergio Martinez.

Zaveck's best bet then is to remain in Europe and his promoters try to arrange a fight with Senchenko.

All the people calling him "overprotected" in my thread yesterday can suck it.

I agree with Tunney that Berto/Zavec would be an excellent fight, one Berto would be the strong favorite in, but a great fight nonetheless. HBO has specifically passed the fight up already though.

Dejan's intentions are in the right place in wanting to fight the biggest name welterweights, but Zavec is nobody in America and I don't knwo what matchup would make be worth coming to America for if not against another belt holder.

I hope Dejan does fight on HBO at least once before he retires, which is in two years (he's already well into his 30s)

Delgado win leads to nothing. Nobody in America will take notice. Zaveck should look to fight a guy like Malignaggi (who will want this fight) to make a start at getting noticed in America. Saul Alvarez would be a fight as well.

It won't really get him much attention in the states but he is a good fighter and him vs Berto isn't as easy if at all a win for Berto as many would think.

In what weight class do Freddy Fernandez, Carlos Quintana, Luis Collazo, Steve Forbes, and David Estrada fight in?
