She was overqualified for the job in the first place but I don't think that when she was named head of the New York State Athletic Commission by then Gov. David Paterson, Melvina Lathan ever thought it turn into a "pro bono" position sans pay.

New York State Boxing is the loser

She brought both class and dignity to all who ply their trade in the "Squared Circle". A knowledgeable no nonsense administrator who earned the admiration of her peers,Boxer's, Officials, Promoters and Managers. All were treated as equals by this fine lady. She brought dignity and class to the Commission as well as to boxing in general, I am proud to call this great lady my friend.
