Comments Thread For: Fury vs Botha is Off: British Board Rejects The Fight

British heavyweight Tyson Fury (13-0, 9KOs) will have to start looking for a new opponent. It was announced last week that Fury would face heavyweight veteran Francois Botha (47-5, 28KOs) on February 19 in Wembley Arena. The British Boxing Board of Control has refused to sanction the fight. They will not allow Botha, 42, to face Fury. Botha has not fought since last year's knockout loss to Evander Holyfield.

The BBoC are pretty good these days. They must have just decided Botha was shot.

shame they didnt get to that decision with Haye & Fraudley...

i guess they dont want another PR disaster like the haye & audley fight because if Botha did get blasted out early (which im not so sure he would have) it would have just made a bigger mockery of UK HW boxing

There was alot of money in an all UK heavyweight title fight even if it wasn't a fight. Blame the WBA for sanctioning it.

He could fight hmmmmm would he loose his mandatory status if he took it? It would have been entertaining this is a bad decision I feel. Who do they want him to fight Sam Sexton? Im sure Botha came to win unlike Audley.

Damn right. America should have done the same to Holyfield.

Ive seen worse mismatches on pretty much every undercard on friday/sat fight nights, so hopefully this will be repeated with promoters being told that the BBBC wont stand for it any more.

                    Somehow i doubt it though
