Comments Thread For: Pascal-Dawson Rematch is Resting on HBO's Shoulders

By Lem Satterfield -Earlier this month, WBC president Jose Sulaiman has ordered an immediate rematch of the Showtime televised, Dec. 18, majority draw between light heavyweight (175 pounds) king Jean Pascal, of Canada, and former undisputed middleweight titlist Bernard Hopkins, of Philadelphia.

The decision, by an overwhelming vote of 30-to-2 by the WBC's 32-member Board of Governors, was made despite Pascal's contractual obligation with promoter Gary Shaw for a return bout against southpaw former WBC interim titlist Chad Dawson of New Haven, Conn., against whom Pascal won an HBO televised, disputed, 11th-round technical decision in August.

      Interesting.

If HBO doesn't buy the fight, then I strongly believe showtime will buy it.

Pascal vs Dawson 2 > Pascal vs Hopkins 2... Pascal will lose either of these two bouts. Dawson is going to be out for him from the gate to avenge his first loss.. Hopkins would win a decision against him anywhere not named Canada. But in actuality, Pascal vs Dawson will offer more excitement. Hopkins' fight was close but it was very boring and the only thing that made it controversial was the outcome, instead of the fight itself...

          not sure what will happen.

if hbo don't pay for pascal/hopkins, gbp might jump ship to showtime too. but they can force hopkins to fight dawson if he beats pascal.

but if hbo does pay for pascal/hopkins, hopkins might jump ship to showtime anyways to fight bute and leave them with a pascal/dawson fight that no one wants to see without a belt on the line.

hbo in a ****ed up situation.

Instead of passing and getting the rematch to their highest rated telecast in years? Not happening.

Showtime's wet dream for 2011 after getting the Pacquiao-Mosley fight is for HBO to reject paying for Pascal-Dawson II.

If HBO doesn't pick up the fight, Pascal-Dawson II is not happening, which is the perfect scenario for Showtime because they get to televise an even more anticipated sequel to their highest rating in years.

This is all for nothing though because I'm pretty sure HBO is picking up Pascal-Dawson II.

Who the hell wants to see Pascal and Dawson again? Dawson fought a gutless and timid fight and doesn't deserve a rematch to a fight that he lost decisively.
