Comments Thread For: For Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista, The Future is Later

When this writer made the trip to the ALA Boxing Gym in the Filipino province of Cebu just before the New Year, trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor iterated a truth that had largely gone unspoken in the career of Bohol, Philippines native Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista.

The kid had potential.. I think they kinda rushed him into the scene and got plastered against PDL.. Should of waited a few more fights. Plus entertaining a big showcase fight can do some to a rookie if he has never been in that shine before..

Kid should take the loss and comeback strong.. All the Great Fighters do.

When De Leon starched him he came into the ring looking cold, stiff and shell shocked by the whole event. I think Boom Boom's got the frame and power to be competitive between 122-135 but probably won't ever get his confidence back. He won't trust his chin from here on out.

I personally wrote him off as ever being a top contender after Ponce. That was a devastating round and one I have a hard time believing he'll ever get out of the back of his mind. I wish him the best because from what I saw before that fight he was a fun exciting fighter, but you have to be something truly special to comeback from a defeat like that.

If you missed it here it is.
