Comments Thread For: Anthony Farnell: From Ring Warrior To Ring Teacher

Anthony Farnell was anything but shy during his 37 fight career – 33 wins against four defeats with 20 KOs. The two weight WBU title-holder, light-middle and middle, was known for his fierce approach, fiercer ring walks and ability to whip himself into fearsome shape ahead of a fight. Farnell helped light the fuse of Manchester's boxing scene during the early noughties only for illness to force him to end his career early.

Farnell does seem like a good person but he's not good enough to train Gavin, his fighters usually display signs of a weak defence. What's Farnell going to teach Frankie?...he's really a glorified fitness trainer with no experience of World level boxing. Frankie needs to contact Roger and Jeff Mayweather, as I believe they would help him to improve no end!

Do you know what I want in this country?

A trainer who specialises in defense. Not to say all British trainers neglect defense, but we never really have many defensively sound boxers or boxers like Toney/Floyd etc. Graham is an example, but he was a product of the Ingle's ( Right? Or am I just going crazy? ).

Arnie has a good stable of fighters, Gavin and Bellew and a few others ( can't think atm ).

But don't say he's just a glorified fitness trainer, because Jim McDonnell is even more so and he's training DeGale.

I get what your saying mate but its not realy part of the British fighters DNA to be overly cautious or defensively minded and you have got to play to your strenghts.when we do produce defensivly sound fighters the boxing public don't realy take to them, think Jonny Nelson.Rightly or wrongly British fight fans want to see a Blood and snot fight.I think in general the fighters we produce have a lot more in common with the central,or south Americans than they do with the clever slick North Americans or the overly cautious Europeans.
