  • Comments Thread For: Mikkel Kessler Eyes Return, Hopes To Fight in May, June

Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32KOs) is hoping to start sparring for a return in March and then fight again by May or June. Kessler has not been in the ring since last April WBC title victory over Carl Froch. He left the Super Six tournament after suffering an eye injury and experiencing double-vision in the gym. Kessler is the WBC's Champion Emeritus, which allows him to get an immediate challenge at the champion Froch.

By the time the tourney is done he'll be so rusty and shot that it won't even be competitive. Especially if it's against Ward again.

The Kessler of today is a shadow of his former greatness. All that extra time off is just going to further reinforce that.

Bute is more relevant at the moment.

I think he will give Ward a better run in a rematch than Lucian Bute would.

"Ken Hershman from Showtime has promised to back us up."

Anyone else finding it amusing how Sauerland are telling us showtime verbally 'promised' them a shot when Sauerland verbally 'promised' Froch the Abraham fight would be in the UK is Kessler could take place in Denmar?

Pot > kettle > black maybe?

I am sorry what has Bute done to deserve a shot at the winner?..

If Ward wins (most likely outcome)

Bute should be facing the likes of Froch, Johnson to get a shot.. he has faced no one of note

2 best solutions. Bute and Kessler fight to get a shot at the winner, which can happen around the same time as the super 6 final, or (Kesser v the winner of the super 6) v (the winner of Bute v the runner -up of the super 6)

kessler didnt deserve that shot to begin with. he got outclassed by ward and then got a gift against froch, drops out missing 3 fights then gets the winner? makes no sense. bute and even dirrell deserve to fight the winner more than kessler, i think kessler should fight one of them on the finale undercard and after that fight the winner of the semifinal losers who should also fight on that undercard. after that he earned a shot at the winner, cant see him doing that though. his promoters know hes one of the best names in the division without being one of the best fighters, i figure they will get him an easy way out.

                    Kessler won fair against Froch.
