Comments Thread For: Juanma-Cordoba in Serious Talks, Nothing Set Says Rivera

As previously reported, it's looking likely that undefeated WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-0, 27KOs) will defend his title against former champion Ricardo Cordoba (37-3, 23KOs) on April 16 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I rather see Lopez/Cordoba than a Kennedy bout. Cordoba is a good proven boxer

But if this fight gets made and Lopez wins he really has to step up and get in there with the big names. Cordoba IMO is no tune up and he has to come ready for him

Hmmmmm, not saying I disagree completely with you but if Cordoba is not tune-up, do you consider him a big name? or like a B-class boxer or what...

I just think everyone needs to give Juanma his credit and thats it...

Gets no Credit for Ponce, Concepcion, Luevano, Marquez is an old man so no credit, I read on here somewhere on here someone saying that he beat Ponce cuz he Ponce was still a prospect at that time!! Ponce had more fights than Juanma at that time!

He'll fight the big names people don't worry...

Cordoba is a good boxer that hasn't had exposure. If you don't come ready for him he has skills to beat you. I do give credit to Juama for beating the fighters that you mention, but right now any of the top names will be more than willing to jump in there with him with the money that he brings.

I rather Lopez lose to a named fighter than fighting a guy like Kennedy a get a suprise loss. Lopez has the momentum right now and should keep on rolling with it

              I think you're right man...

I don't know of any one who has stepped up to the table to fight him though, he wants to fight Gamboa (later this year) He needs a good match before that though and i don't know if people have stepped up...

They have but the problem is Arum. They want a huge slice of the pie of the purse. Arum will do with Lopez what he has done with all his fighters that are on the top and that is to milk them. He will continue to no risk Lopez as long as he is getting paid to put him to fight.

Unless the fighter is not generating money or is almost out of the contract he doesn't risk them. It would be a pity that a fighter like Lopez that is so exciting might pass his prime fighting picked opposition.

I'm not saying that every fight has to be a blockbuster fight but it should be comming more often.

JuanMa needs to step it up

JuanMa vs Cordoba is not a bad matchup but is not what we expect. Rojas, John, Hasegawa should be what he should do. He needs to unify the division and ridd us of fake champs or loose to real champs. Is time for JuanMa to fight champions to separate contenders from pretenders...
